Eligibility/Qualification

Candidates must possess the following profile:

  • An MSc-degree or equivalent in the field of biology, biochemistry, or chemistry, focusing on biochemistry and/or microbiology.
  • Demonstrated experience in the cultivation and genetics of archaeal microorganisms.
  • Ability to conduct molecular biological experiments (such as cloning and hydrolase assays) and biochemical experiments (such as protein purification).
  • Knowledge of RNA-biology in archaea is highly desirable.
  • Curiosity, high self-motivation, and enthusiasm to develop an independent research project.
  • A motivated and passionate team player with a strong disposition toward their own scientific qualification (i.e., completing a doctoral project).

Job Description

The appointed researcher will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Developing an original research project with a high degree of independence.
  • Investigating the function and catalytic activity of recombinant proteins and their complexes with nucleotides.
  • Performing in vivo work and genetic engineering of both bacterial (E. coli) and archaeal (S. acidocaldarius) model organisms.
  • Characterizing the archaeal metabolome through multidisciplinary collaborations in an international environment.
  • Communicating research internationally via publications and active participation in scientific conferences.
  • Aiding in student courses and teaching seminars for university students.
