About- Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has announced Special Recruitment Drive 2026-001 for Assistant Professor positions across multiple academic departments. The recruitment is specifically aimed at Indian nationals belonging to reserved categories—SC, ST, OBC, PwD and EWS. Candidates with a Ph.D. and strong academic records are invited to apply online. Eligibility/Qualification–

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Must be an Indian national belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PwD or EWS reserved categories covered under the special recruitment drive.
• Must possess a Ph.D. in the appropriate branch/discipline.
• Must have first class or equivalent at the preceding degree.
• Candidates should have a very good academic record in all preceding degrees.
• Fresh Ph.D. candidates may be appointed on a three-year contract, with the possibility of regularization thereafter.
• Candidates with three or more years of post-Ph.D. teaching, research or industrial experience may be considered for regular appointment.
• Minimum qualification and/or experience requirements may be relaxed for candidates with outstanding credentials.
• Candidates employed in government or semi-government organizations must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the time of interview.
• Relevant caste/category/disability certificates issued by the competent authority must be submitted in the prescribed Government of India format.

Assistant Professor – Grade I / Grade II

Appointments may be made as regular faculty or, depending on qualifications and experience, on a contract basis.

Selected faculty members will be expected to contribute to the academic and research activities of IIT Kanpur. Responsibilities include:

• Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Conducting high-quality research in the candidate’s area of specialization.
• Developing independent research programmes and securing research funding.
• Supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students.
• Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and research programmes.
• Participating in departmental and institute-level academic activities.
• Developing collaborations with national and international research institutions and industry.
• Contributing to curriculum development and other academic responsibilities.

Salary & Benefits

Additional benefits include:

• Central Government employee allowances and benefits applicable at Kanpur.
• Research initiation grant of up to ₹25 lakh, with provision to apply for supplementary funding.
• Financial support for national and international conferences as per institute norms.
• ₹25,000/month additional top-up salary for the first three years for newly joined faculty.
• Eligibility after three years for performance-based Young Faculty Fellowship or Faculty Chair opportunities with additional salary benefits.
• International joining travel reimbursement for the faculty member and dependent family members up to ₹1.5 lakh, subject to institute rules.
• Domestic joining travel reimbursement as per government rules.
• Institute housing facilities, subject to availability, with free high-speed internet.
• Candidates called for interview may receive reimbursement for eligible to-and-fro travel within India and related travel expenses according to institute rules.
