FPI 2025 Predoctoral Contracts: The Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC) invites applications for Predoctoral Research Contracts (FPI 2025) under the State Subprogram for Research Training within the Spanish Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2024–2027. These fellowships, managed by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), aim to train early-stage researchers by supporting their doctoral studies and participation in high-quality research projects.

Successful candidates will join the research group led by Prof. Carlo Manzo at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering, contributing to the project:

Eligibility / Qualification

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Doctoral Admission:
    • Must satisfy academic and legal requirements for admission to a PhD program at UVic-UCC.
    • Must be enrolled in doctoral academic supervision for the 2025–2026 academic year.
  2. Academic Background:
    • Master’s degree in Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Computational Sciences, or related fields.
    • Strong academic record with official transcript (0–10 grading scale).
  3. Restrictions:
    • Must not hold a PhD degree.
    • Must not have held similar predoctoral funding exceeding 12 months prior to the deadline.
  4. Documents Required:
    • Academic transcripts (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees).
    • Degree certificates.
    • Short CV in AEI standardized format (in Spanish or English).
    • Contact details for two referees for recommendation.

Job Description

The selected candidate will:

  • Conduct research towards their PhD thesis within the AEI-funded project.
  • Participate full-time in research activities at UVic-UCC under the supervision of Prof. Carlo Manzo.
  • Engage in doctoral program activities to acquire scientific and technical competencies.
  • Optionally collaborate in teaching activities (up to 60 hours/year, 180 hours total during the contract).
  • Prepare annual progress reports and a final research report following AEI guidelines.
  • Have the opportunity to perform research stays (national or international) with additional financial support.

Selection Process
