Eligibility/Qualification:
For Urban Wildlife Ecology (MS or PhD):
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- For MS: Undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, wildlife, statistics, or related field
- For PhD: MS in biology, ecology, wildlife, statistics, or related field
- Record of publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers
- Strong quantitative background, including data wrangling and visualization in R, statistics (especially hierarchical models and Bayesian analysis), and GIS & remote sensing
- Experience with camera trapping
- Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers or coordinating volunteers
For Avian Macroecology (PhD):
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- MS in biology, ecology, wildlife, statistics, or related field
- Record of publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers
- Strong quantitative background, including data wrangling and visualization in R, statistics (especially hierarchical models and Bayesian analysis), and GIS & remote sensing
- Knowledge of bird ecology and diversity
Job Description:
Urban Wildlife Ecology (MS or PhD):
The student will work with the Urban Wildlife Information Network, assisting with deploying and maintaining camera-traps across Stillwater, developing research projects on urban wildlife behavior and community structure.
Avian Macroecology (PhD):
This computational position involves working with large datasets such as eBird, North American Breeding Bird Survey, and the National Ecological Observatory Network. Research may include studying macroecological patterns in avian community structure, species’ range shifts in response to climate change, and seasonality of the structure of species’ ranges.
