Research Area

This project will investigate how peripheral immune signals influence brain health and disease, specifically focusing on the role of tissue-resident macrophages and their interaction with neuroinflammation in synucleinopathies and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Location

  • Work to be conducted at the VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology (Drie Eiken campus) and VUB Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene).

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related life science discipline.
  • Hands-on experience or strong interest in spectral imaging techniques, confocal microscopy, and bioinformatic analyses.
  • Experience in mouse work is highly desirable.
  • Interest in macrophage biology and neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • Alignment with University of Antwerp’s educational vision and faculty research policies.

Description

The selected candidate will actively prepare and defend a PhD thesis in neuroimmunology, publish scientific articles, and undertake limited research and teaching support tasks. During the doctoral scholarship, candidates will submit an innovative project to the FWO (Research Foundation – Flanders) for a personal fellowship.
