Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Program: The Centre for Applied Creative Technologies (CfACTs) is a research centre funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 900025. CfACTs is co-led by Prof Jian Chang and Prof Jian J Zhang, of the Bournemouth University’s National Centre for Computer Animation (BU NCCA). The centre offers six funded post-doctoral positions for up to two years to conduct multi-disciplinary research focused on industrial applications related to two BU Strategic Investment Areas: Animation, Simulation and Visualisation; Medical Science, and Assistive Technology. CfACTs is currently accepting applications for Recruitment Call 2.

Study Area: The scholarship is for post-doctoral research in applied creative technologies, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer animation, visual effects, computer vision, visualization, healthcare, retail, and assistive technology. The fellows will work collaboratively with industry to research and develop new applied digital creative techniques.

Scholarship Description: The Centre for Applied Creative Technologies (CfACTs) is offering six funded post-doctoral positions for up to two years. The selected fellows will be embedded in UK creative technology companies to conduct multi-disciplinary research focused on industrial applications related to two BU Strategic Investment Areas: Animation, Simulation and Visualisation; Medical Science, and Assistive Technology. The fellows will work collaboratively with industry to research and develop new applied digital creative techniques. Additionally, they will gain cross-sectoral experience and receive necessary training and career development opportunities.

Eligibility: To be eligible for the fellowship program, applicants must:

  • Have a doctorate or have at least four years full-time equivalent research experience.
  • Be of any nationality and meet the MSCA requirements in terms of mobility.
  • Not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline.

CfACTs will offer six ER posts in total, via two Calls. Call 1 is in 2021/22 and Call 2 will be in 2023:

  • Call 2 opens 22 December 2022 to recruit three CfACTs ER fellows (Cohort 2)
  • Application submission deadline – 30th April 2023  23:59hrs GMT 
  • Independent Panel Review of Applications – May 2023
  • Expected Interview Date – June 2023
  • Expected fellowships start date – August 2023 at Bournemouth University
