NHMRC MRFF Dietitian PhD Scholarship: La Trobe University is offering the NHMRC MRFF Dietitian PhD Scholarship for future PhD candidates, particularly Australian citizens interested in advancing research related to Pancreatic Cancer nutrition management. The scholarship covers a stipend of $38,000 per annum for a duration of 3 years. This initiative is part of the research project aiming to develop and implement a co-designed intervention involving tube feeding and intensive dietary education to alleviate nutrition impact symptoms in Pancreatic Cancer patients. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical specialists across participating Victorian hospitals and contribute to a multicentre randomized controlled trial.

  • Hold an Australian Masters by research degree or international equivalent with a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 70 or above.
  • OR possess an Australian Bachelors (Honours) degree, Masters by coursework, or ungraded Masters by research degree, or international equivalent completed within the last ten years with a weighted average mark of 70 or above across relevant coursework subjects.
  • Qualification to practice as a dietitian in Australia, recognized by Dietitians Australia (DA).
  • Eligibility for membership of DA and meet the criteria for the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) program.
  • Clinical nutrition knowledge and experience in pancreatic cancer nutrition management, including pancreatic exocrine insufficiency management and palliative care.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Organizational skills, efficient workload management, and prioritization ability.
  • Capacity to work collegiately with other staff in the workplace.

Job Description: The NHMRC MRFF Dietitian PhD Scholar will contribute to the research project by providing specialized clinical dietetic services, collecting and managing research data using electronic data capture software, and preparing for and participating in investigator meetings throughout the trial lifecycle. The focus will be on the management of complex enteral feeding and nutrition impact symptoms in Pancreatic Cancer patients.
