Postdoctoral Fellow (Cancer Microbiome and Single Cell Research)

Contract/Duration: 24 Months (1FTE)

Remuneration: IUA Postdoctoral researcher Level 1 point 2

Summary of Post We will build a Single-Cell Atlas of Fusobacterium Infection and the Cellular Signalling Response in the different cell types of the tumour microenvironment infected with Fusobacterium (cancer cells, fibroblasts, immune cells, endothelial cells). Hyperplexed immunofluorescence imaging will be performed in colorectal cancer tissues using the Cell DIVE platform in Prof Prehn’s laboratory.

Conduct individual and/or collaborative research
Engage in dissemination of research results
Carry out administration/management associated with research
Promote translational research through interaction
Assist with supervision of graduate students and staff
Compliance with statutory legislation, RCSI rules, and safety
Training and development programs as required
Represent the Department and RCSI’s best interests
Other duties as required

Qualifications – (Essential) The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Pathology, or similar, ideally in Cancer Biology. Experience in microbiome research or multiplexing is advantageous. Very good writing and communication skills are essential.

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential) Excellent cell culturing, molecular biology, and gene editing skills are essential. Strong research and scientific writing skills. Ability to work successfully with colleagues and stakeholders.

Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable) Experience with microscopy, spatial omics, or multiplexing is helpful. Bioinformatic skills are desirable.

Desirable Attributes Include:

  • Strong research skills and a proven track record in publication.
  • Understanding of Colorectal Cancer and/or microbiome research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with quantitative research methodologies.
