Eligibility & Qualifications
To be considered for this doctoral scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Degree: Hold an academic Master’s degree in Chemistry, Bio-engineering, Applied Sciences (Engineering), or Civil Engineering—specifically with a specialization in chemistry. (Candidates graduating by the time of the appointment start date are also eligible to apply).
- Academic Excellence: Able to demonstrate excellent study results.
- Research & Teaching Alignment: Qualities and competences must align with the university’s research policies and educational vision.
- Commitment: Highly motivated to undertake a doctoral project and willing to actively apply for external funded fellowships (e.g., FWO fellowships 2027).
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Dutch.
- Core Values: Act with quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation, showing a pronounced interest in one of the Chemistry department’s research groups.
Job Description & Responsibilities
As a doctoral researcher, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Actively preparing, writing, and publicly defending a Ph.D. thesis in the field of chemistry.
- Drawing up a structured research plan and corresponding methods in consultation with your supervisor(s).
- Conducting high-standard research efficiently (potentially spending time abroad) and competing for research funding.
- Progress reporting to supervisors/committees and presenting findings at scientific conferences.
- Publishing scientific articles related to your research project in peer-reviewed press.
- Carrying out a limited number of teaching, research, and service support tasks for the Department of Chemistry.
