PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Nanoscale: The Advanced Materials Group at Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and the Nanolino group at the University of Basel (UNIBA) invite applications for PhD and postdoctoral positions in the SNFS-GAČR funded project focused on nanoscale friction control of layered transition metal dichalcogenides.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Essential: Background in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or closely related disciplines. Strong expertise in solid-state density functional theory. Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Desirable: Programming experience in scientific languages (Fortran, C, C++), knowledge of shell scripting in a UNIX environment, and experience with Linux-based HPC architectures (for CTU). Surface science background and experience with ultrahigh vacuum equipment, atomic force microscopy, and scanning probe techniques (for UNIBA).

Job Description:

PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Nanoscale Friction Control of Layered Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

Positions at Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU): PhD and postdoctoral fellows at CTU will develop quantum mechanical models based on Density Functional Theory, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Antonio Cammarata. The research will involve utilizing High-Performance Computing (HPC) centers for calculations.

Contract Details:

  • PhD position: 4 years
  • Postdoctoral position: 2 years, with a 1-year extension based on performance

The research involves high-resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis under the supervision of PD. Dr. Thilo Glatzel.

Contract Details:

  • PhD position: 3 years, with the possibility to extend to four years
  • Postdoctoral position: 2 years
