Eligibility/Qualification
- Successfully completed MSc degree in (aquaculture) molecular biology, microbiology, animal ecology/physiology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in fish health/physiology and host-microbe interactions.
- Proven experience with molecular tools (PCR, DNA/RNA extraction) and microbiological techniques.
- Good knowledge of advanced statistical analysis (preferably using R).
- Excellent organizational, written, and spoken communication skills in English (C1 level preferred).
Description
The PhD project aims to investigate the effects of environmental changes, such as temperature, on fish-microbe interactions, as well as the implications of early-life priming on fish fitness and environmental adaptation. The research will involve:
- Molecular, bioinformatic, and microbial community analyses.
- Metagenomic and transcriptomic profiling.
- In vitro microbial tests.
Supervision will be provided by Dr. Fotini Kokou and Prof. Dr. Ir. Geert Wiegertjes.
Benefits
- Gross salary: €2,901 per month (rising to €3,707 in the fourth year).
- Temporary contract for 18 months, extendable based on performance.
