PhD Candidate in Immune Cell at Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands
PhD Candidate in Immune Cell: Wageningen University & Research is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on understanding the fundamental biophysical mechanics driving phagocytosis in immune cells. This interdisciplinary project combines theoretical modeling, computational simulations, and quantitative experimental measurements to advance the understanding of cytoskeletal mechanics in phagocytosis.

PhD Candidate in Immune Cell Behavior Research at Wageningen University & Research

Designation

PhD Candidate

Research Area

Interdisciplinary research at the interface of biology and physics, specifically focusing on immune cell behavior and phagocytosis.

Location

Wageningen University & Research, Wageningen, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A completed MSc degree in biological or physical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Strong affinity with interdisciplinary research, preferably in physics-biology or mathematics-biology domains.
  • Fundamental understanding of biological physics and cell mechanics or soft matter physics.
  • Good quantitative skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Experience with mathematical/computational modeling of biological processes.
  • Experience with cell culture and/or fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics.
  • Proficiency in English at a C1 level or higher.

Description

The PhD research proposes to:

  • Construct a theoretical framework/computational model of phagocytosis.
  • Test this model through quantitative experimental measurements utilizing high-resolution microscopy and microparticle traction force microscopy.
This project seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical tools from soft matter physics and experimental techniques to better understand the dynamics of phagocytosis—an essential process in cell biology, especially within the immune response.
