Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Animal Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Interest in infectious disease epidemiology and viral evolution.
  • Affinity with livestock farming and commitment to improving swine health.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with phylodynamic analyses is a plus.
  • Fluency in Dutch is an asset, with proficiency in English required.

Job Description

The PhD project involves:

  • Analyzing genetic sequence data from PRRSv strains.
  • Investigating viral transmission dynamics between pig farms.
  • Identifying virulent viral lineages.
  • Developing biosecurity measures for farmers.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including Royal GD and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Communicating findings through scientific publications and lay summaries for farmers.
