Research Area
Developing advanced quantum tools and matter-wave interferometry to explore the quantum physics of complex neutral biomolecules.

- Key Focus: Development of novel cold beam sources, quantum detectors, quantum coherent beam splitters, mass spectrometry, spin physics, and quantum delocalization in complex molecules.

Eligibility / Qualification
- Degree: Master’s degree or Diploma in Physics (or equivalent qualification allowing PhD enrollment at the University of Vienna prior to start date). Candidates with a structured 4-year Bachelor’s degree are also considered.
- Technical Experience: Practical hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Molecular beam sources
- (Cryogenic) ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems
- Superconducting nanowire detectors
- Advanced optics, laser systems, and frequency conversion
- Mass spectrometry or matter-wave research
- Skills: Demonstrated experimental design, construction, and troubleshooting skills in laboratory settings.
- Language Requirements: Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Job Description
- Research Project: Active participation in the Q4-BIO research project and preparation of a PhD dissertation aiming for completion within 4 years.
- Dissertation Agreement: Present research plan to the faculty and complete a dissertation agreement within 12–18 months.
- Teaching Duties: Contribute to lab courses and exercise classes in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Administrative & Group Support: Assist with administrative tasks and the self-organization of the research group.
- Scientific Communication: Stay updated on state-of-the-art research, publish findings, present at scientific conferences, and participate in public outreach.
