Research Area

The project focuses on quantum computing, specifically optimization on noisy gate-based NISQ (Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum) platforms. The research will investigate how optimization and data-analysis tasks can be formulated and run on existing NISQ hardware, considering constraints like decoherence, gate imperfections, and measurement noise. A key direction is quantum reservoir computing, treating noisy many-qubit dynamics as a computational resource. The project combines cloud-based quantum computation and classical simulations to compare approaches based on practical criteria like circuit depth, gate errors, and performance on benchmarks. The expected outcome is a set of methods and design principles for using current NISQ devices for optimization and data analysis, particularly where conventional variational circuits are not robust.
