Eligibility/Qualification:
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree in biology, engineering, physics, computer science, or related fields (required)
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- Experience with bioacoustics, fieldwork, data collection, acoustic analysis, and large datasets processing
- Proficiency in programming and data analysis in at least one language
- Good written and spoken English
- Ability to collaborate with international colleagues
- Beneficial experience: marine mammal bioacoustics, passive acoustic monitoring tools (PAMguard), bioacoustic machine learning, database management, fieldwork on research vessels, research paper writing and publishing
Job Description: The PhD candidate will work within a small, interdisciplinary team to:
- Develop and validate methods for detecting individual bottlenose dolphin signature whistles
- Catalogue signature whistles for new populations
- Implement statistical analysis for mark-recapture estimates of population density
- Contribute to the analysis of long-term monitoring data from Denmark
- Improve detection and monitoring of small delphinid populations in Danish and European waters
- Collaborate with leading researchers from the Sarasota Dolphin Research Project, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and University of St. Andrews
- Utilize a longitudinal dataset of dolphin vocalizations and a network of long-term listening stations
