Eligibility

To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet both general and specific entry requirements:

  • General Requirements: A second-cycle qualification, or completion of courses comprising at least 240 credits (with at least 60 credits in the second-cycle), or equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad.
  • Specific Requirements: A passing grade in courses of at least 120 credits in chemistry (or a related subject area), including an independent advanced/second-cycle project.
  • Desired Skills: Demonstrated knowledge in organic analytical chemistry and a strong interest in PFAS research, mass spectrometric analysis, and multivariate statistics.
  • Valuable Merits: Experience with sample preparation, oxidation processes, LC-MS/MS, Q-TOF, high-resolution mass spectrometry, combustion ion chromatography, and working in interdisciplinary environments. A valid driver’s license is also considered a merit for fieldwork.

Scholarship Description

This position offers a full-time doctoral studentship for the duration of the four-year program. The student will work within the PFAS flows from land to sea work package, utilizing advanced analytical methods (like LC-MS/MS and extractable organofluorine analysis) to investigate PFAS in wastewater, stormwater, and industrial effluents. The project is a close collaboration between IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Chalmers University of Technology, Örebro University, VA SYD, and Malmö City. The student will actively participate in field sampling, laboratory work, and collaborative workshops.
