PhD in Image Analysis, UPF, Barcelona, Spain

Postdoc in Spain

PhD in Image Analysis : The group of Oriol Gallego (UPF) is offering a 4-year PhD position to delve into the physical principles underlying the adaptation of molecular systems in cells exposed to climate change. This position involves developing an image analysis pipeline for extracting quantitative measurements from advanced microscopy techniques, integrating them using machine learning and data modelling.

PhD in Image Analysis and Data Modelling for Advanced Microscopy applied to Biomolecular Systems (Barcelona)

Designation: PhD Candidate

Research Area: Image Analysis and Data Modelling for Advanced Microscopy applied to Biomolecular Systems

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Expertise in optics applied to light microscopy, bioimage analysis, or data modelling
  • BSc or MSc in computer sciences, physics, math, (bioscience) engineering, biotechnology, or related disciplines
  • Proficiency in computer programming (Python, R, Matlab, or FiJi)
  • Excellent track record of Graduate and Master degrees (>=8/10 GPA for Spanish students)
  • Familiarity with SMLM, particle tracking, or cryo-EM/cryo-ET is advantageous

Job Description: The PhD student will contribute to developing an image analysis pipeline to extract quantitative measurements from Single Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM), particle tracking, and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). They will integrate these measurements using machine learning and data modelling techniques to gain mechanistic insights into cellular adaptations to climate change. The role also involves teaching activities during the first year and collaborating with international teams at the forefront of cell biology and physics research.
