Summary

This PhD project focuses on overcoming current limitations in PAT implementations by integrating first-principles chemistry and physics with data science. The goal is to develop efficient, robust, and generalizable chemometric models for Raman spectroscopy in the production of aqueous drug products. You will be part of the DTU Novo Nordisk Manufacturing Innovation PhD Program, working in a cross-disciplinary environment.

Research Area

  • Core Focus: Physics-Informed Simulation Framework for Synthetic Spectral Data Generation and Chemometric Modelling in Pharmaceutical Analysis.
  • Key Tasks: Developing methodologies for data augmentation via simulations, handling experimental/process variability, and performing rigorous model validation under extreme production scenarios.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, applied mathematics, data science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of spectroscopy, chemometrics, statistics, or machine learning.
  • Experience: Prior laboratory experience and a strong interest in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, proficiency in English (written/spoken), and the ability to work in a cross-disciplinary setting.

Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research on Raman spectroscopy, chemometrics, and data-driven modeling.
  • Develop and validate new methodologies for creating augmented process data through simulations.
  • Work with experimental and simulated data from real-world pharmaceutical production environments.
  • Publish scientific results and share knowledge across Novo Nordisk and DTU.
  • Collaborate with industry experts and academic supervisors from DTU’s Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
