Eligibility / Qualifications
- Education: Excellent Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Microsystems Engineering (MEMS), or a related field.
- Technical Experience & Knowledge:
- Solid knowledge of microfluidics, fluid dynamics, and multiphysics simulation (e.g., COMSOL).
- Practical experience in designing, prototyping, and testing lab-on-a-chip systems.
- Ideally, familiarity with handling magnetic particles, non-Newtonian fluids (e.g., blood), or sample preparation for molecular diagnostics (MDx).
- Languages: Very good written and spoken German and English.
- Personal Competencies: Independent working style, strong hands-on mentality, structured planning, and ability to bridge theoretical simulation with physical prototyping.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Modeling & Simulation: Perform targeted literature research on magnetic particle manipulation and construct multiphysics models (e.g., COMSOL) to optimize particle trajectories and fluid dynamics.
- Module Development: Design and develop a reusable, cartridge-compatible microfluidic module that automates target-molecule extraction (capture, washing, transfer, resuspension, and release).
- Prototyping & Testing: Build functional prototypes and evaluate system performance using metrics such as target-molecule recovery, processing time, and reproducibility.
- Translation to Applications: Translate physical understanding into actionable design rules for disposable diagnostic cartridges and deliver models/prototypes for future product integration.
