About- Indian Institute of Information Technology Tiruchirappalli (IIITT), also known as IIIT Trichy, is an Institute of National Importance and one among the 21 IIITs proposed under the non-profit Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model by MHRD.

IIITT is an academic and research institute fully funded by the Government of India, the Government of Tamil Nadu, and Industry Partners in the ratio of 50:35:15.

Eligibility/Qualification–

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Minimum 15 years of technical/professional experience in industry, R&D organizations, government agencies, or other professional sectors.
• Must possess any one of the following:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture, or
  • Master’s Degree in Science, Humanities, Management, Education, Law, or
  • Professional qualifications such as CA, CFA, or equivalent.
• Ph.D. is desirable but not mandatory.
• Retired professionals from industry or R&D organizations are also eligible.
• Candidates currently serving in the teaching profession are not eligible for Professor of Practice positions.
• Selected experts are exempted from publication requirements and other faculty recruitment eligibility criteria applicable to Professor-level appointments.

Job/Position Description- 

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released a Rolling Advertisement (No. NITT/R/PoP/2026 dated 16 July 2026) inviting applications for the position of Professor of Practice (PoP). The institute seeks distinguished professionals from industry, R&D organizations, government agencies, and other professional sectors to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and bring real-world expertise into teaching, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Designation: Professor of Practice (PoP)

The selected Professor of Practice will contribute to strengthening the academic ecosystem by integrating practical industry knowledge into education and research. Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and deliver practice-oriented academic courses.
• Mentor students on academic, industry-sponsored, and interdisciplinary projects.
• Establish collaborations with industry, government organizations, and professional bodies.
• Promote innovation, entrepreneurship, startups, and product development initiatives.
• Strengthen industry-academia partnerships through:
  • Collaborative research projects
  • Consultancy
  • Guest lectures
  • Internships
  • Joint academic and industrial initiatives
• Support institutional efforts in innovation and experiential learning.

Compensation

Selected candidates will receive:

• Monthly Honorarium: ₹1,20,000
• Reimbursable Allowance: Up to ₹40,000 per month (inclusive of accommodation and other eligible expenses).

For retired Government employees:

• Remuneration will be based on:
  • Last Pay Drawn − Pension + Applicable TA (as per Government norms).
