PhD Position in Computational Sciences

To be eligible for this PhD position, applicants must have:

  • A second-cycle level degree or completed course requirements of at least 240 ECTS credits, with at least 60 ECTS credits at the second-cycle level.
  • At least 90 ECTS credits in Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) courses, including 30 ECTS at the second-cycle level.
  • Proficiency in English (both oral and written).
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (e.g., Python, Rust, R, Julia, Matlab, C++).
  • A solid background in mathematics, modeling, computer science, and/or programming.
  • Interest in evolutionary biology, microbiology, molecular biology, machine learning, bioinformatics, and data processing is desirable but not mandatory.

Job Description:
The PhD student will:

  • Participate in a project focusing on microbial interaction strategies using computational methods.
  • Use machine learning to infer microbial decision-making mechanisms and bioinformatics to compare these mechanisms to empirical data.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, including game theory and modeling approaches.
  • Receive training and resources from the DDLS program and the interdisciplinary center, IceLab.
  • Undertake teaching or departmental duties up to 20% of the full-time post.
