Study Area: The PhD position focuses on the shock and impact behaviour of mechanical metamaterials, utilizing advanced experimental techniques, simulation-based design, and data-driven methods. The research will be conducted within the SIMLab research group, known for its expertise in testing, modelling, and simulation of structures subjected to high deformation rates.

Scholarship Description: The project aims to enhance the understanding of internal deformation mechanisms in mechanical metamaterials during high deformation rates. The candidate will engage in computer-aided design, numerical modelling, experimental work, and the development of inverse design methodologies. The research will contribute to accelerating the development of new metamaterials.

Eligibility:

  • Relevant background in Structural Engineering
  • Completion of a five-year Norwegian degree program, with 120 credits at master’s level
  • Strong academic background with an average grade equivalent to B or better
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
