Job Description

The PhD project aims to develop erosion kinetics laws for applications in dike safety, addressing the intricacies of backward erosion piping. Successful candidates will engage deeply with microscale modelling techniques, exploring primary and secondary erosion mechanisms and their impact on the integrity of dikes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced particle-fluid simulations using Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM).
  • Develop and validate numerical models assessing dike safety.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from various institutions.
  • Produce high-quality scientific publications and communicate findings effectively.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Modelling primary erosion at the pipe tip.
  • Analyzing three-dimensional pipe networks and their meandering patterns.
  • Understanding the influence of soil characteristics on erosion processes.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their applications via the ‘Apply now’ button by including the following:

  • A cover letter (1 page maximum) detailing specific interests, qualifications, and research ideas.
  • A detailed CV outlining all attended courses and grades.
  • A brief description (0.5 page maximum) of your MSc research.
