Research Area

The project focuses on the metabolism of Purple Phototrophic Bacteria and how external electron inputs can influence their growth and composition. The research addresses critical gaps in phototrophic metabolism, microbial electrochemistry, and biological nitrogen fixation.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • MSc degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology/Bioprocess Engineering, or related fields.
  • Passion for microbial biotechnology and sustainability.
  • Proven experience in lab settings for microbial cultivation and operating (photo)bioreactors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members and students.
  • Proficiency in English at C1 level; an internationally recognized language certificate might be required.

Description

The candidate will join the Purple Spark project, a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the production of high-value products from Purple Phototrophic Bacteria. The position involves:

  • Combining photobioreactors with electrochemical systems.
  • Conducting laboratory experiments and analyses to investigate PPB culturing.
  • Collaborating with another PhD candidate and supporting teaching activities.
