Summary:
Iowa State University is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on studying the diversity of pollinators in row crop rotations (corn-soybean) versus alternative crop rotations (e.g., pea, sunflower). This research, funded by the Iowa Soybean Association, aims to analyze pollinator diversity and visitation across different crop rotation systems. The successful candidate will join either the Wildlife Ecology program or the Entomology program.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A B.S. and M.S. in Entomology, Wildlife Sciences, Biology, Ecology, or related field with a GPA ≥ 3.0.
  • Skills: Positive attitude, inclusivity, organizational skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic, communication skills, and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Preferred: Experience with pollinator survey methods and quantitative methods.
  • Applicants from underrepresented and historically excluded groups are encouraged to apply.
  • GRE not required; valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Job Description:
The PhD student will conduct fieldwork, statistical analyses, and data interpretation to investigate pollinator diversity in crop rotations. Responsibilities include developing research questions, conducting pollinator surveys, identifying plant species, and leading a literature review. Fieldwork will be conducted in Iowa (May-August, 2025-2027). Academic requirements include coursework and dissertation writing.
