PhD Position in Degradable and Durable Polymers

Designation: PhD Researcher

Research Area: Sustainable Polymer Materials – Degradable and Durable Polymers

Location: Macromolecular Engineering Laboratory, D-MAVT at ETH Zürich, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Chemistry (or equivalent)
  • Strong synthetic skills and knowledge in spectroscopic characterizations (NMR, UV-Vis, IR)
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Experience in Polymer Chemistry and/or polymer materials (thermoplastics, elastomers)
  • Familiarity with thermomechanical characterization of polymers
  • Background in mechanical characterization of polymer materials

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing experimental lab work, conducting formal analysis and processing of data. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Organic synthesis, optimization, and spectroscopic characterization of novel functionalized monomers suitable for polycondensation techniques.
  2. Synthesis of polymers, thermoplastics, and elastomeric materials, along with physicochemical and thermomechanical characterization.
  3. Investigation of on-demand degradation, hydrolytic aging, and the self-healing/self-reinforcement of polymer-based materials.
