PhD Position in Remote Sensing and Biodiversity Join the international team of Dr. Petr Keil at the Department of Spatial Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. This fully funded, full-time PhD position is part of the ERC-funded project BEAST (“Biodiversity dynamics across a continuum of space, time, and their scales”), focusing on biodiversity changes in terrestrial ecosystems over the past 50 years using space-borne remote sensing.

Location: Department of Spatial Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s or equivalent degree in ecology, geography, remote sensing, zoology, botany, bioinformatics, biostatistics, environmental sciences, mathematics, statistics, or physics.
  • Prior experience with spatial data, GIS, programming, and/or statistical analysis in a command line is advantageous.
  • Good spoken and written English.

Job Description: The candidate will study the temporal change of remotely sensed spectral diversity, linking it with field-measured taxonomic diversity. The role involves processing geographic data, statistical analysis, modeling, publishing results, conference presentations, and collaboration with an international network. Candidates will also assist with teaching.

Salary:

  • Standard employment contract: Starting gross salary of 32,000 CZK/month (approximately 26,000 CZK/month net after tax) until the end of 2027.
  • Four years of tax-free PhD stipend: Starting at 12,000 CZK/month, growing to 13,000, 14,000, and 16,000 CZK/month in years 2, 3, and 4 respectively.
  • Combined starting net income around 38,000 CZK/month (approximately 1,500 EUR/month as of 4th Jan 2024).
