Wageningen University’s Information Technology Group is offering a fully-funded PhD position to create the greenhouse of the future using adaptive digital twins for precision agriculture. The research will apply AI, particularly deep learning and reinforcement learning, along with software/systems engineering techniques to develop a smart and efficient greenhouse. The digital twin will integrate sensor data, employ state-of-the-art AI techniques, and enhance user-friendly interactions with farmers.
Eligibility:
- MSc in a discipline relevant to the PhD project (e.g., computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, or agricultural sciences)
- Experience with AI techniques, especially deep learning and reinforcement learning, and related algorithms and programming languages (e.g., Python)
- Experience with software/systems development and engineering, or a keen interest in digital twinning
- Familiarity with precision agriculture/horticulture or a strong interest in investigating this domain
- Familiarity with sensing and IoT technologies or a keen interest in learning these techniques
- Collaborative mindset and an interest in working in multi-disciplinary projects with researchers and industry partners
