PhD Position: TREK Potassium Channels, Institut de Biologie Valrose, France

Postdoc in France

Summary

The Institut de Biologie Valrose in Nice is offering a 36-month PhD position to investigate the role of TREK potassium channels in pain control. The project focuses on utilizing photopharmacology and light-induced analgesia to remotely control channel function, aiming to dissect the mechanisms in the peripheral nervous system and spinal cord.

Research Area

  • Research Domain: Mathematics and mathematical interactions (as classified by CNRS)
  • Specific Focus: Biology of Ion Channels; Peripheral nervous system and spinal cord nociceptive circuits.

Job Description

This doctoral project aims to understand and harness the role of TREK potassium channels in pain control through two complementary strategies:

  • Photopharmacological approach: Targeting TREK channels using the light-sensitive ligand LAKI.
  • Light-Induced Analgesia: A non-pharmacological method based on UV-A activation of endogenous channels.

The goal is to determine how TREK channel activation shapes membrane excitability, alters synaptic transmission, and translates into changes in pain perception in vivo. The candidate will join the “Biology of Ion Channels” group within an international scientific environment.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: Candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent (BAC+5) qualifying them for doctoral studies.
  • Inclusion: This offer is open to people with a document recognizing their status as a disabled worker.
