Eligibility / Qualification

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Applicants must currently be located in the United States.
  • Strong interest or experience in deep learning is expected.
  • Background in Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry is helpful but not mandatory.

Job Description / Research Responsibilities

Selected students will work on developing deep-learning approaches for recovering structural information about quantum materials from weak and noisy electron diffraction data.

Possible research directions include:

  • Developing physics-informed neural networks for materials research.
  • Creating generative models to reconstruct material structures.
  • Developing uncertainty-estimation methods to assess reconstruction reliability.
  • Using AI to identify where additional measurements should be performed.
  • Applying deep learning to address fundamental scientific questions in quantum materials.
