PhD Research in Synchrotron Methods: Uppsala University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering is offering a prestigious scholarship opportunity for a Doctoral (PhD) Student focusing on the multimodal characterization of magnetic nanomaterials with X-ray and ferromagnetic resonance. PhD Research and Innovation in Synchrotron Methods and Applications

Designation: Doctoral (PhD) Student

Research Area: The position is within the subject of Engineering Sciences with specialization in Solid State Physics at the Division of Solid State Physics, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Uppsala University. The research focuses on the characterization of nanomaterials and compounds for applications in energy, environmental aspects, life science, and functional materials such as batteries and environmental applications using porous materials.

Location: Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge and skills in X-ray scattering
  • Fulfillment of the mobility rule of the MSCA COFUND program, i.e., not residing in Sweden for more than 12 months during the specified period
  • Proficiency in English (minimum B2 level)
  • Knowledge or experience in areas such as programming with Python, data analysis with Jupyter notebooks, SAXS, magnetic materials, electrochemical testing of batteries, or gas sorption is advantageous

Job Description:
The main duty for the doctoral student is to engage in research studies, participate in the PRISMAS project, attend PhD courses, and potentially undertake teaching and departmental duties not exceeding 20%. The position also involves independently running projects within the specified subject, collaborating with other doctoral students and researchers, conducting experiments, in-operando characterization of materials, attending international conferences, and participating in specialized courses and training schools.
