Eligibility

  • An MSc-degree or equivalent in biochemistry, biology, or a related field within the life and natural sciences.
  • A highly motivated individual who thrives when working as part of a team.
  • Practical experience in the field of biochemistry and/or molecular biology.
  • Advantageous Experience: Recombinant protein expression and purification, RNA methods, CRISPR-Cas systems, mammalian cell culture, reporter assays, RT-qPCR, sequencing-based approaches, or fluorescence-based assays.
  • Excellent English proficiency is required; knowledge of German is a plus.

Scholarship Description

This 3-year, part-time (65%) position provides an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge RNA research within an interdisciplinary environment. The doctoral researcher will be responsible for scientific services focusing on RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas systems, including the recombinant expression and purification of CRISPR-Cas proteins and complexes. Key tasks involve the biochemical and molecular characterization of complex assembly, RNA binding, and filament formation. The candidate will also develop RNA-targeting assays in human cell lines and analyze targeting efficiency and specificity using sequencing-based approaches. Successful candidates will gain membership in the integrated graduate school of TRR 440, which offers workshops and seminars on RNA research, bioinformatics, and career development.
