PhD Scholarship: Decoding Epigenetic Mechanisms of Gene Regulation in T Cells, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

Summary

The group of Fred van Leeuwen at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation in T cells. This project focuses on understanding how targeting the epigenetic writer protein DOT1L can reprogram cytotoxic T cells to enhance their anti-tumor responses. The goal is to uncover new insights into T-cell biology to develop more effective cancer immunotherapies.

Research Area

This project will delve into the mechanisms and functions of epigenetic pathways in T cells, specifically focusing on how targeting the epigenetic writer protein DOT1L reprograms cytotoxic T cells. The research aims to understand the epigenetic mechanisms of DOT1L to strengthen T cells for more effective anti-cancer responses. Methodologies will include CRISPR-Cas9 based genome engineering, epigenetic editing, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and DNA-barcode-based epigenetic screens, with validation in primary human CD8 T cells.

Location

Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Scholarship Description

As a PhD candidate at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, you will join a cutting-edge, dynamic, and international research environment. You will work within the Division of Gene Regulation, collaborating closely with the Division of Molecular Oncology and Immunology. The NKI provides state-of-the-art core facilities including imaging, flow cytometry, proteomics, genomics, and screening. You will receive training and supervision through the Oncology Graduate School Amsterdam (OOA) and be represented by an active PhD Council. This role offers ample opportunities for scientific, personal, and professional development in an inspiring environment where research and patient care converge.
