Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field completed by the start date.
  • Required Skills:
    • Significant experience and expertise in air-free synthetic methods (e.g., Schlenk and glovebox techniques).
    • Crystal growth and analysis using single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
    • Spectroscopic characterization methods such as NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies.
    • Interest and research experience in chemical synthesis and characterization methods.
  • Highly Desirable (but not required): Experience in actinide chemistry and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). Applicants with an expressed interest in developing these skills will be viewed positively.

Job Description

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will lead efforts in Dr. Scott R. Daly’s lab to prepare and characterize new phosphorus ligands and actinide complexes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Synthesis and characterization of phosphorus ligands and metal complexes.
  • Assisting with safe oversight and management of radiochemical laboratories.
  • Drafting manuscripts and technical reports.
  • Mentoring and training graduate students.
  • Presentations at conferences and external venues.
  • Collecting XAS data at synchrotron user facilities.

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years based on performance and funding availability. Work authorization sponsorship is available in J-1 status.
