Study Area: Aphid-Plant-Microbiome Interactions

Location: Wageningen, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Biology, Plant Sciences, Plant Biotechnology, or a related field with a specialization in insect-plant or pathogen-plant interactions.
  • Proficiency in bioassays with plants and insects/pathogens, as well as molecular techniques like RNA/DNA extraction and (q)PCR.
  • Knowledge of plant defenses and effector biology.
  • Motivated to enhance skills in transcriptomics and proteomics data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an international, collaborative research environment.

Description: In this PhD position, you will conduct cutting-edge research to uncover the intricate dynamics between aphids, plants, and their associated microbiomes. Through a combination of wet lab experiments, molecular assays, and data analysis, you will explore the molecular mechanisms employed by aphids to overcome plant defenses and the role of microbial symbionts in mediating these interactions. Working within the Laboratory of Entomology and the Laboratory of Virology at Wageningen University, you will collaborate with a team of passionate scientists dedicated to understanding and improving agricultural practices.
