Study Area: This PhD scholarship focuses on Circular Printed Electronics, specifically the development of recyclable electronic labels for thermoformed cellulose products. The project aligns with ELICIR’s third axis project, emphasizing the design of circular printed labels. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative, sustainable technology solutions.
Scholarship Description: The selected PhD student will conduct research at the University of Québec in Trois-Riviéres, supervised by Professor Samaneh Shahgaldi and co-supervised by researcher David Myja. The research project comprises two main parts:
- Development of Recyclable Electronic Paper: This phase involves creating a paper with electronic printing capabilities while ensuring it remains recyclable using standard paper-making equipment. The project will explore the use of nanocellulose, pigments, and biobased additives to achieve the desired properties.
- Application of Electronic Labels: The second part focuses on applying the developed electronic paper as labels on thermoformed cellulose products. The challenge is to achieve this without using adhesives or additional steps, ensuring good adhesion while preserving the electronic device’s functionality. Success in this endeavor would be a groundbreaking achievement for sustainable end products.
Eligibility: We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, mechanics, or a related discipline.
- Excellent organizational skills and a team player.
