  • Hold (or expect to complete soon) a Master’s or equivalent degree in physics, mathematics, or any related field.
  • Strong skills in computational molecular (bio)physics, statistical mechanics, and scientific computing.
  • Keen interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experimental groups.
  • Master’s students aiming for a fast-track PhD are also welcome.

For Postdocs:

  • Hold a PhD or equivalent degree in physics, mathematics, or any related field.
  • Strong skills in computational molecular (bio)physics, statistical mechanics, and scientific computing.
  • Keen interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experimental groups.

General Requirements:

  • No German language skills are required as the group language is English.
  • The Max Planck Society encourages applications from individuals with disabilities and strives for diversity and gender equality.

Scholarship Description

The Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences offers an exciting opportunity for young researchers to contribute to fundamental life processes research. The Department of Theoretical and Computational Biophysics provides a world-class environment with state-of-the-art high-performance/GPU compute facilities. Researchers will engage in competitive, interdisciplinary research, benefit from various work-life balance offers, and have access to further training opportunities and free in-house language courses. The historic city of Göttingen provides a vibrant cultural and academic setting. The exact start date is flexible, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit their application preferably via e-mail as a single PDF file. The application should include:

  • A cover letter explaining background and motivation.
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Academic transcripts (translated to English or German, if applicable).

Please indicate in your application which of the listed projects (variational free energy methods, thermodynamics of solvation shells, constant-pH simulation methods, Markovian thermodynamics, or functional mechanisms of the ribosome, fatty acid synthase, CRISPR/Cas, or intrinsically disordered proteins) you are most interested in.

Last Date for Apply

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
