Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Sustainable Artificial Intelligence, CTCC, Spain

Postdoc in Spain

Summary

The Sustainable Artificial Intelligence (SAI) research unit at the Center Tecnològic de Telecomunicaciones de Catalunya (CTTC) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher. This position focuses on developing novel data-driven approaches for anomaly and novelty detection in cyber-physical systems, utilizing cutting-edge scientific computing methods like physics-guided learning and operator-theoretic system identification. The goal is to overcome limitations of traditional machine and deep learning models in detecting irregular and unforeseen patterns.

Designation

Postdoctoral Researcher (R2 Category)

Research Area

Sustainable Artificial Intelligence (SAI), focusing on data-driven anomaly and novelty detection in cyber-physical systems, physics-guided learning, and operator-theoretic system identification.

Location

Center Tecnològic de Telecomunicaciones de Catalunya (CTTC), Mediterranean Technological Park of Castelldefels, Spain.

Eligibility / Qualification

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Signal Processing, or a related field (must be obtained by the time of contract signing).
  • Strong background in machine learning and scientific computing.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and/or Julia.

Valuable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience with physics-informed neural networks or ordinary neural differential equations (ODEs).
  • Experience with operator learning (e.g., Koopman operator, kernel methods).
  • Experience with differential equations, particularly stiff ODEs.
  • Strong publication record and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Scientific Machine Learning (SciML) frameworks.
  • Demonstrated contributions to open-source libraries in the relevant field.

Exceptional candidates who may not meet all requirements are still encouraged to apply; their professional category will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Job Description

The selected Postdoctoral Researcher will:

  • Join the research activities of the Sustainable Artificial Intelligence (SAI) unit.
  • Conduct fundamental research on developing novel data-driven approaches for anomaly and novelty detection in cyber-physical systems.
  • Utilize and develop cutting-edge scientific computing methods, including physics-guided learning and operator-theoretic system identification.
  • Disseminate research results through scientific publications in high-quality journals and top-tier international conferences.
  • Organize special sessions and workshops related to the project’s research topics.

What CTTC Offers:

  • A 24-month postdoctoral position.
  • Annual gross salary commensurate with the candidate’s profile.
  • Full-time contract (7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week with flexibility).
  • Expected professional category: R2.
  • Prospect start date: 4th quarter 2026.
  • Continuous training, access to lab facilities, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and polyvalent working spaces.
  • Opportunities for participation in scientific events and R&D projects, and complementary skills development.
  • Employee Benefits:
    • Paid time off (33 working days vacation per year, holidays, sick and parental leave).
    • Up to 3 days of telework per week (2 fixed + 1 upon request).
    • Flexible working hours for work-life balance.
    • Career path promotion (professional category and/or annual gross salary).
    • Annual productivity bonus based on performance.
