PhD Student Position in Data Science: The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is inviting applications for a PhD student position. This position is part of a binational German-Dutch project focused on understanding functional diversity within coastal phytoplankton communities in the context of climate change. The successful candidate will analyze composition and functional diversity changes over time and space across different ecosystems, exploring the causes and effects of these transformations.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A qualifying academic university degree (Master’s or Diploma, not from a University of Applied Sciences)
  • Background in theoretical ecology, physics, applied mathematics, data science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in mathematical modeling, time series analysis, or machine learning
  • Interest and experience in ecology and biology, particularly phytoplankton ecology
  • Proficiency in spoken English
