Job Description
A key challenge in materials science is optimizing material production efficiently and sustainably. Flow chemistry offers unique control, spatio-temporal resolution, and efficient transport processes, enabling the scalable production of various molecules and materials. However, the optimal conditions for these processes are complex to determine.
This PhD project focuses on developing and comparing bespoke optimisation algorithms (e.g., SNOBFIT, Bayesian optimisation, TSEMO) with design-of-experiments approaches to improve the efficiency of material production. The project aims to optimise cost, product yield, sustainability, and process modelling.
PhD candidates will work in the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) at the University of Liverpool, benefiting from an interdisciplinary training programme developed with industrial partners. This programme will equip researchers with skills in robotics, digital intelligence, chemistry, and physical sciences, preparing them for leadership roles in R&D.
