Job Description

University Assistant Postdoctoral – Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy

The University Assistant Postdoctoral position is within the Department of Geography and Regional Research, focusing on the interdisciplinary Urban Studies Working Group. The Group explores the interactions of social, ecological, and technical processes affecting urban systems, emphasizing urban sustainability transformations. The successful candidate will actively contribute to research, teaching, and administration within the Urban Studies Working Group, developing a specific focus within the field.


Your Future Tasks

  1. Contribute to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and teaching.
  2. Develop a knowledge database within the USLL.
  3. Acquire and manage third-party research projects.
  4. Publish and present in international settings, engaging with academic and non-academic stakeholders.
  5. Teach courses independently, supervise students, and contribute to curriculum development.
  6. Undertake administrative responsibilities.
  7. Participate in science management, including organizing workshops, conferences, symposiums, etc.
  8. Promote inter- and transdisciplinary research in local and international networks.

Your Personality

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, Technology, or related field.
  • Outstanding dissertation.
  • Competence in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, including living lab approaches.
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Proven ability to publish in international journals and engage with science-to-public outlets.
  • Teaching experience with a strong track record in both undergraduate and graduate curricula.
  • Willingness to contribute to the development of innovative teaching formats and research management.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, working knowledge of German required or to be acquired, Spanish is a strong asset.
  • Team player with high social/communicative skills.
  • Experience in successful external fundraising and project management is advantageous.
  • Research or study experiences abroad are a strong asset.
  • Affinity to Latin America is highly welcome.
