Research Area
This role is centered around the isolation and characterization of microbial strains from human, animal, and environmental microbiomes, emphasizing the identification of novel bioactive compounds.
Eligibility/Qualification
- PhD in Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Strong background in microbiology, microbial genetics, or natural product chemistry.
- Hands-on experience with bacterial culture, metabolite extraction, LC-MS/MS, HPLC purification, and functional bioassays.
- Experience with microbial genomics or heterologous expression is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Isolate and characterize microbial strains.
- Conduct genome sequencing and phenotyping.
- Perform metabolite extraction and prepare for LC-MS/MS analysis.
- Validate biosynthetic gene clusters (BGC)–metabolite links using various experimental methods.
- Purify candidate metabolites using prep-HPLC and assess their biological activity.
- Collaborate with computational biologists to prioritize strains for characterization.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and assist in manuscript preparation.
