Postdoctoral Fellowship Position at EMBL, Hinxton, UK

Research Group is looking for an experienced Post-Doctoral Fellow with a proven track record in genomic data analysis to join the Birney research group at EMBL-EBI. The successful candidate will work on an ERC-funded project in collaboration with the University of Heidelberg – IndiGene, involving high throughput DNA and RNA bioinformatics analysis, genetic association testing, and the investigation of gene-environment effects.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or related fields
  • Proven track record in genetic research
  • Skilled at developing software in a Unix-based environment
  • Detailed knowledge of current genomic techniques
  • Comfortable coding in either Python or R
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills

Job Description:

  • Work on DNA and RNA experiments using Illumina and Nanopore (ONT) sequences
  • Assemble individual reference genomes for each of the MIKK panel lines
  • Perform genetic association testing using multiple complex traits
  • Investigate gene-environment (GxE) effects
  • Analyze an already generated RNA sequencing dataset across all MIKK panel lines in different tissue types and environments
  • Interrogate gene to environment (GxE) effects through eQTL analysis
  • Analyze multiple F2 cross experiments to generate additional datasets for genetic association testing at scale
