The candidate will work in collaboration with the Catalan Ornithological Institute (ICO) and international monitoring networks under the European Bird Census Council (EBCC). Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Bioacoustics, Computational Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Strong interdisciplinary foundation in ecology, data management, and technology.
- Proven experience in biodiversity monitoring and familiarity with acoustic monitoring techniques.
- Experience with sound-based monitoring tools such as BirdNET, Kaleidoscope, or AI-based models.
- Proficiency in handling large-scale ecological datasets and statistical modeling.
- Knowledge of Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) and frameworks.
- Desirable: Programming skills in Python, R, experience with AI/ML pipelines, and expertise in field deployment of autonomous recording units.
Job Description:
- Develop and standardize protocols for integrating acoustic bird monitoring data into EU-wide platforms.
- Design and implement workflows to harmonize acoustic and traditional monitoring datasets.
- Lead the creation of EBV showcases to demonstrate how acoustic data enhances monitoring of species distribution, abundance, and migration phenology.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders for device monitoring, workflow refinement, and reporting standards.
- Coordinate workshops, meetings, and act as CTFC’s liaison for project alignment.
- Publish high-quality scientific outputs and contribute to policy reports.
Terms of Appointment:
- Start Date: January-February 2025
- Contract Duration: 2 years (Temporary, Fixed-term)
- Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
- Salary: Based on skills and experience
