Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland

Postdoc in Ireland

Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1: University College Dublin (UCD) is inviting applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 position in the School of Biology and Environmental Science. The successful candidate will contribute to a project focused on the evolutionary genomics of heat stress adaptation in aquatic ectotherms.

Designation:
Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1

Research Area:
Evolutionary Genomics of Heat Stress Adaptation

Location:
Dublin, Ireland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant field.
  • Early-stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or entering a new area for the first time.
  • Applicants with a total postdoctoral experience exceeding 4 years should refer to PD2 posts instead.

Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate how early-life heat stress induces lasting genomic changes across three distinct aquatic ectotherms: the marine ragworm (Hediste diversicolor), the starry-night reed frog (Heterixalus alboguttatus), and zebrafish (Danio rerio). The project aims to determine the impact of heat stress exposure on mutation rates and to explore the role of noncoding genomic elements in accelerating evolutionary processes. Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting whole-genome sequencing and transcriptomic analyses under heat stress conditions.
  • Annotating noncoding elements across the frog genome and integrating existing datasets from other frog species, zebrafish, and marine ragworms.
  • Engaging in bioinformatic analysis of large-scale genomic datasets, with potential opportunities for complementary laboratory-based experimental work.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates must submit their applications via the UCD employment portal by the closing date. Ensure to check the Work at UCD website for further information on the application procedure.

Last Date to Apply:
Applications must be submitted by 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 15th October 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.
