Designation/Position- Postdoc position available at TIFR
Dept. of Biological Sciences, TIFR, Mumbai, India invites applications for Postdoc position available at TIFR from eligible and interested candidates
About- The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), invites applications for research positions at the intersection of machine learning, computational science, and oncology. The project focuses on developing advanced AI and machine learning methods to extract quantitative biomarkers from histopathology images, aiming to improve prognostic assessment and advance the understanding of cancer biology. This is a highly interdisciplinary opportunity to work closely with experts in machine learning, large-scale computation, and clinical research.
Research/Job Area- Machine learning, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or related quantitative fields
Interface of Machine Learning, Computational Science, and Oncology (specifically developing deployable AI tools, representation learning, geometric structure extraction, and predictive modeling for histopathology).
Location- Dept. of Biological Sciences, TIFR, Mumbai, India
Eligibility/Qualification–
- Educational Background: Background in machine learning, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or related quantitative fields.
- Technical Skills: Comfort with Python and scientific data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, pandas, matplotlib). Familiarity with machine learning methods is considered a plus but is not strictly required.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
Job/Position Description-
Designation Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Postdoctoral Fellow
| Position | Monthly Stipend | Age Limit | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Research Fellow | Rs. 37,000 + HRA | Below 30 years | 1 year (extendable up to 3 years) |
| Postdoctoral Fellow | Rs. 58,000 – Rs. 67,000 + HRA | Below 35 years | 1 year (extendable up to 3 years) |
(Note: Housing and Rent Allowance (HRA) will be provided as per TIFR rules. Compensation follows standard TIFR norms.)
The successful candidates will work in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (DAA) under the guidance of Prof. Shravan M Hanasoge and other mentors from TIFR and TMC. The core responsibilities involve designing robust computational pipelines that seamlessly combine modern deep learning, image analysis, and statistical modeling with clinically grounded datasets. Researchers will engage with foundational mathematical and computational questions to solve clinically meaningful problems in a focused, collaborative setting.
