Summary
The Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) is recruiting a junior Post-Doctoral Researcher under the PIONEER-PON project. This project is a co-promoted national R&D initiative developing the first European pluggable Optical Line Terminal (OLT) based on Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) and CMOS ASIC technology for converged passive optical networks (GPON/XGS-PON). Eligibility & Qualifications
- Required Degree: PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Photonics, Microelectronics, Physics Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Core Skill Sets:
- Photonics: Deep understanding of optical communication systems, Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), lasers, photodetectors, and PON architectures/standards (ITU-T G.984, G.9807.1, IEEE 802.3).
- Electronics: Hands-on design and characterization of electrical-to-optical (E/O) and optical-to-electrical (O/E) conversion circuitry, laser/modulator drivers, transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), analog/mixed-signal high-speed circuits, signal conditioning, power management, digital control interfaces ($\text{I}^2\text{C}$, SPI, GPIO), and PCB design.
- Test & Measurement: Hands-on experience with high-speed and optical characterization lab equipment (oscilloscopes, network/protocol analyzers, optical power and BER measurement, signal integrity, jitter, and SNR analysis) along with ASIC/PIC bring-up and evaluation board testing.
- General Skills: Fluency in English, strong analytical and documentation abilities, and the ability to work effectively in a multi-partner R&D consortium.
Job Description
- Contribute to the development of complementary and support electronics for the OLT module within the PIONEER-PON project.
- Perform high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuit design, PCB layouts, and design evaluation/test boards.
- Conduct functional and electrical verification and bring-up testing of co-integrated electronic-photonic systems.
- Publish research findings in high-impact international scientific journals and conferences.
- Engage with national and international partner networks across academic and industrial consortiums.
