Post-doctoral Scientist in Cancer Immunology: We currently have two exciting opportunities available for post-doctoral scientists at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology (RW-IoH). We are seeking ambitious and dynamic individuals to join our teams and contribute to groundbreaking research in cancer immunology and mitochondrial medicine for liver disease.

Designation: Post-doctoral Scientist

Research Area:

  1. Cancer Immunology
  2. Mitochondrial Medicine for Liver Disease

Location: Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology, London SE5

Eligibility/Qualification:

For RS64: Post-doctoral Scientist in Cancer Immunology

  • Enthusiastic and dynamic post-doctoral scientist.
  • Strong background and experience in cancer immunology, preferably with expertise in working with human samples.
  • Knowledge of liver immunology is advantageous, along with an interest in ECM research.
  • Good publication record.

For RS66: Post-doctoral Scientist in Mitochondrial Medicine for Liver Disease

  • Enthusiastic and motivated post-doctoral scientist.
  • Strong background and experience in mitochondrial pathophysiology, morphology, and dynamics, preferably with expertise in working with human models/samples.
  • Knowledge of liver disease or organ transplantation will be advantageous, along with an interest in mitochondrial transfer/transplantation.
  • Good publication record.

Job Description:

RS64: Post-doctoral Scientist in Cancer Immunology

As a key team member of the Liver Regeneration and Tissue Engineering group and Liver Immunology group, you will spearhead a groundbreaking project exploring the immunomodulatory properties of the extracellular matrix in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other liver cancers. Responsibilities include day-to-day management and coordination of this project, focusing on the intricate cross-talk between immune cells and specific ECM-associated proteins. Your work aims to unravel how the ECM shields tumors from the immune system and can regulate local responses to immunotherapies, such as checkpoint receptors.

RS66: Postdoctoral Scientist in Mitochondrial Medicine for Liver Disease

You will develop a project on mitochondrial transplantation for the rescue of marginal grafts or on targeting mitochondrial dynamics for Alcohol-related Liver Disease. Responsibilities include day-to-day management and coordination of the project with a clear focus on translational medicine. By delving into the pathophysiological role of mitochondria, you will push the boundaries of mitochondrial medicine and develop innovative interventions to tackle the burden of liver disease.

How to Apply:

To apply for either position, send a 1-page covering letter explaining your background and suitability, together with a detailed CV describing your research experience to date and including names and contact details of two referees, one of whom is the current/most recent employer, to:

James Poynton, Chief Operating Officer, Foundation for Liver Research: j.poynton@researchinliver.org.uk

Please name documents you send as follows: <surname, first name, RS64, {CV} or {covering letter}> for Cancer Immunology and <surname, first name, RS66, {CV} or {covering letter}> for Mitochondrial Medicine for Liver Disease.

Last Date for Apply:

For RS64: Post-doctoral Scientist in Cancer Immunology Closing date: 9am Monday 1st July 2024

For RS66: Postdoctoral Scientist in Mitochondrial Medicine for Liver Disease Closing date: 5pm Friday 21st June 2024
