Post Doctorate Fellow – Geriatrics: The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and hardworking Post Doctorate Fellow in Geriatrics to join our research team. This position offers an opportunity to conduct research focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms involved in aging, particularly in the context of interventions such as exercise and nutritional supplementation. The successful candidate will work in a laboratory dedicated to understanding functional and cognitive capacity in aging mouse models, with a focus on age-associated declines like frailty, sarcopenia, and dementia.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Recent PhD in biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, or a related field
  • Strong background in molecular biology and prior experience with studies on muscle or brain
  • Competence in critical thinking, cell culture/technical skills, and written/communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques
  • Experience with cellular immunology, transgenic mouse handling, single cell sequencing, flow cytometry, or bioinformatics is desirable

Job Description: As a Post Doctorate Fellow in Geriatrics, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting experiments to understand strategies to enhance healthspan (optimal physical and cognitive function) during aging and investigating the underlying biology driving phenotypes.
  • Performing experiments in animal models, including behavioral tests, culturing of primary cell lines, protein and nucleic acid isolation, NEXTgen sequencing, western blot, ELISA, and Seahorse extracellular flux analysis.
  • Conducting experiments in naturally aged and/or transgenic mouse models to investigate aging-associated genes.
  • Participating in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Designing independent experiments in consultation with your supervisor.
  • Completing other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
